Dance music industry mainstay Peter Wohelski
interviews
Doc
Martin and gives a detailed account of his history, fond
memories, opinions, and
current projects. Doc recently mixed the 15th
installment of King Street's Mix the Vibe series and joined
legendary talent such as David Morales, Kerri
Chandler, Danny Krivit, Tony
Humphries, DJ Spinna, Joe Claussell,

Having been a DJ since 1986, Doc has definitely established
himself as one of Dance Music's legends. A worldwide

legendary Tunnel in NYC with Danny Tenaglia
(where he was
the first West Coast DJ to do so), to DJing the closing set of
the 2001 Detroit Electronic Music Festival (attended by nearly
a quarter of a million people), to going on tour
with ,James Brown, Deee-Lite, Grace
Jones and the mighty Dubtribe Sound System.
You'll find more in the current issue of DJ Times, March 2006.

Huge congratulations to Mr. Vega! Though not in the Dance/ Electronic Music Category as we may have thought, the award is not without its superb merit. You may remember Masters At Work having been already nominated 4 times in prior years, but this time he wins his very first Grammy himself, Louie Vega. The category was Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical which, containing all dance/electronic remixers, could very well be considered an extension of the dance category.
"Superfly" (Louie Vega EOL Mix) Louie Vega, remixer (Curtis Mayfield) Track from: Mayfield: Remixed The Curtis Mayfield Collection [Rhino Records] Big congrats also to The Chemical Brothers featuring Q-Tip for winning both Best Dance Recording with "Galvanize" and Best Electronic/Dance Album with Push the Button (Chemical Brothers). |

Recently hitting the shores of America, asian pop artist,
mink, is rapidly getting big support from the likes of XM
Satellite Radio and quite a number of
Terrestrial Radio Mixshows. Her debut single, "Glory of
Life"
on King St. has the word ANTHEM written all over it.
Already a #1 Breakout on Billboard's Hot Dance Music Club
Play Chart, it has zoomed to #14 after 5 short weeks. The
song will also be soon featured on the official soundtrack of
the 2006 Gay Games mixed by mixshow heavyweight
Joe Bermudez.
One of the many ways this single is destined for greatness is
the guys on the remix duties. We're talkin' big room, even
circuit, gurus
Chris Cox and John Creamer & Stephane K
. Chris slays us with a 9+ minute big room blast with
his
Club Anthem hitting the mega-club bullseye dead center.
Creamer & K slam us with the Para Vida Mix
and Bonus Beats on this vinyl, which is slightly lower rpms
and chunkier beats but with all the builds and effects that one
would fully expect from the prog-meisters. This is certainly
on its way to being one of King Street's hot new big rooms
anthems for 2006! Stay tuned for Part II remixes by
DFA.

The name BLISS is completely apt for the musical
styles these overseas artists bring to Nite Grooves. On the
Bliss EP, available on vinyl and digital download
only, one will find
the following gorgeous tracks:
A1 - "Another Day" Don't let that intro fool you! That space-pumpy intro turns into a smooth and harmonious affair with uplifting lounge-y vocals. Slow, easy and steady rhythm with a melodic jazzy piano infusion. It just rides so calmly putting you instantly in a great mood. Funky synth jab loops come in towards the end to funk thing up a bit. Simply put a gorgeous starter or ender or both! A2 - "Mode" This digital chillout ride is perfect for those hip eateries or smoking lounges (as if they still exist) with funky undertones and a surprising rock guitar interjection. Reminiscent of early electrik-disco this is chock full of cool breakbeat-styled rhythm. Set your Mode to frosty. B1 - "SIGMA"- That's supposed to be a Sigma symbol in case you're wondering (CC doesnt support the character!) and it definitely holds some stature in electric lounge frat, if you will. Atmospheric, rhythmic and cinematic, this instrumental is perfect for the intimate room. B2 - "Holy Desert" Bringing this eclectic EP full circle, "Holy Desert" is a deep, dark instrumental giving us a taste of the pure synth ambient sound with a slight pump. Excursions in ambience indeed. Greg Fenton of UK's M8 & Update Magazines says: "Exceptional"! KNG 247 Streetdate: 2/6/06 OUT NOW!

What can we say about this man but 2 simple words. LOOK.
OUT. Kerri Chandler protégé Dennis Ferrer
currently holds tight the key to unlocking the mystery behind
a true house music song of praise. It was Dennis' remix with
an ingenious hook that propelled the Blaze/Barbara
Tucker #1 smash hit "Most Precious Love" in
2005. Now in 2006, Dennis takes matters into his own hands
and brings us more of his very own incredible creations.
"Change the World" is one such example of a future soulful
anthem.
Currently #2 on UK DJ Magazine Hype Chart, this had djs
scrambling for copies the second they heard it. It's obvious
then, this song speaks for itself. As vocalist K.T.
Brooks, Sr. urges so truly, "One man
can't
change the world"
(even though Dennis is doing just that), "But we as a
people,
together we can!? 'Nuff said!
Taken from forthcoming Dennis Ferrer album on King St.

With their Relight double remix album still going
strong, Nite Grooves
releases yet another stunning single with two very different
but powerful remixes, each put forth by 2 world-renowned
producers.
Tedd Patterson Vibal Mix - Chunky beats and seamless digital panning make this more club friendly, taking it out of the lounge and bringing it to serve the children on the dancefloor. Tedd strikes an ingenius balance between the soft vocal and the harder-edged grinding synth melody & thick sexy rhythm. Those are just but a few of the sounds contained within, but all in all they make this mix work on a multitude of levels. King Britt Sunset Mix - More on the ethereal tip, this could work in the lounge or the club for an early starter. Floating waves wash over a metronome rhythm that instantly puts one in an upbeat dream state. The rhythm changes about 3/4 of the way through the mix giving further credence to King Britt's unpredictable expert remixing ability. KNG 248 Streetdate: 2/20/06
